Animal Surrender

KY Hopeful Paws will attempt to take in surrendered pets whenever possible. Please note, we generally only accept small-to-medium-sized dogs and cannot accept pit-bulls or pit-bull mixes.

Surrendering a pet is a difficult decision that should be discussed with all members of your family. If you have a pet to surrender please fill out the form below. A KY Hopeful Paws representative will contact you within 48 hours.

Before surrendering your dog, please consider:
1. Contacting a dog trainer. Just one or two lessons can help. Visit www.apdt.com to find a qualified trainer in your area.

2. An undiagnosed medical condition. If your dog is barking, biting, or suddenly acting abnormally he/she could have something wrong medically and should be checked by a knowledgeable veterinarian.

When a pet is surrendered to KY Hopeful Paws:

The pet will be placed in a foster home until all medical issues (spay/neuter, vaccines, heartworm testing, and any other needed surgeries or treatments) have been addressed. Once the pet is cleared medically and the pet's temperament has been evaluated, we will make every effort to place them into very carefully matched, well-screened adoptive homes. All of our fosters and adopters are subjected to a lengthy evaluation process which includes an application, reference and vet check, and phone screens.

In filling out the following form PLEASE make every effort to be truthful and do not leave out any information that would be important to the care and well-being of both the pet and the foster/adoptive families. Because all pets are kept in private foster homes, oftentimes with children and other animals, it's important that no information be withheld.

*While we do not require a surrender fee, caring for pets in rescue is very expensive. There are often many unforeseen medical issues that need to be addressed when pets are surrendered. We ask that you please take that into consideration upon surrender and consider making a donation when surrendering to help defray some of these costs.
